  1. OPENING RECEPTION: Friday January 18, 5 - 7 pm

Printmaking & Acrylic on Canvas in the KAC Main and Hall Galleries.

    About Kelly (Tilly) Perry:
As an Artist/print-maker Tilly creates her art on how she feels and what she sees in everyday life. Art allows her to create the feelings, which she cannot put into words. It is a way for her to get beyond the past and often the future.

Tilly returned to school after a life-altering event in 2000, although it was a struggle it was a way for her to survive and Tilly graduated with her BFA in 2005. Today she is a mother of four amazing children and grandmother of 10. Her journey has not been simple but she can be found trying to make a difference for others, working with Children at Risk for the school district as well as working with adults with disabilities with her Saturday Mornings open to the public.

Over the years Tilly was one of the founding members of Arnica Artist Run Centre, as well as a director with the Kamloops Printmakers and help positions as president for both. She has been in several solo and group exhibitions in B.C. Ontario, Saskatchewan, UK, USA and Spain. A few years ago VIDA out of San Francisco picked up Tilly’s art for their clothing and décor line. In return her art gives people in India and Pakistan fair wage and education for them and their family, which they would otherwise not receive. This also promotes her are all over the continent.

Art is a voice. Tilly’s art/prints and scarves can be found at the Kamloops Gallery Gift shop. Tilly has resided in Kamloops since 1967 but grew up in Ontario after coming to Canada in 1951 from Holland.

She often heads out on her gypsy drives to search for the eagle, collecting rocks and pigments for future pieces of art.
Art and nature have a spiritual connection and a way for her to find peace.

    Artist Statement:
    "Let Art Be Your Voice"
Today I discovered why my exhibitions are titled as they are.

"Beyond the Forest Floor" allows me hide and feel safe much like the “Hidden Works” series. Doing this means I do not have to deal with conflict or face new challenges that are in front of me even though simple. At the moment dealing with it means my forest floor would disappear and so would the journey of this exhibition.

"Almost Black and White" How everything in life is either Black or White leaving little room for change in our society. I would like to be in the middle allowing me to make more out of my own personal choices rather than going along with the crowd.

Over the years my art has been my healer. Today my art is controlled by what is happening around me and the issues in the world. I often sit and cry watching the news - seeing what we humans have done and how we treat one another. For me the solution to get beyond that, to absorb myself into my art or drive for miles on my gypsy road trips to find the eagle and look at the beauty beyond. Each canvas or trip brings me peace and a moment to move forward.

Art is not how many pieces I can sell.
I would like you to listen to my story through my art.
I have been gifted to be creative and share my journey with you.
